What we keep

By Jennifer Millikin

There is no recipe for love.

The Ugly Truth:

You know those books that just change, well, everything for you? This is one of those.

Here I was expecting to read a contemporary romance story that might have me smile every few pages. What I was not expecting was the snot-inducing, tear-jerking, heart-filling book that was What We Keep.

Jennifer Millikin perfectly captured how it feels when you first fall in love, and how it feels when that love changes before your eyes. As the reader, you know in the first 30% of the book that something more is coming, a shoe is waiting to drop, but it was nothing like I could have guessed.

This book is meant to be read without knowing anything more than what I have already said. There is so much power in the unknown, and so much that comes from the fall out of everything that every reader should feel for themselves.

What I can honestly say is that this book redefined what I thought love could be and should be. We all carry ideas of how we might handle certain situations, or change for certain people, but we can never accurately know until it all happens This left me crying, laughing, understanding that life is never linear and love can hurt in the best way possible - for the right person, love is truly all you need.
