The Three-Body Problem

By Liu Cixin

Not sure what the scientists are saying, but I am giving this an A+.

The Ugly Truth:

Repeating what many have before me, this might the most wildly imaginative sci-fi novel I have ever read and I am incredibly excited to move to the next book. Similar to, I am sure, many others, my interest sparked when I first saw the trailer for the TV series based on this novel, and I knew that I must read it before diving into any binge night, and I am so happy I did. In fact, I have yet to watch the series because I know that it would be best to finish all the books first before really jumping in.

Anyways, book talk now, I felt simply brilliant reading this novel. Honestly, you will read this and convince yourself that you are an expert in science (and I do mean the entire subject). There were no soft explanations or a slow dive-in; no, Liu Cixin celebrates creativity and technology like few have done before, and every page felt like a new lesson. The facts and tidbits shared throughout the book led me to do actual research on the Cultural Revolution and unique scientific theories that I NEVER would have even thought of had I not picked up this novel.

The plot is amazing, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger and each storyline uniting so perfectly together in different ways that it creates the most compelling vision of the “butterfly effect.” I enjoyed the characters, the theories and the “never give up” attitude that this book creates and I cannot recommend it enough to others.

I wish I could say more, but like the blurb, I need to keep it brief in order to not give anything away. This book is an experience that has to be entirely your own.
