The Ugly Truth:
Stalking Jack the Ripper was a great surprise.
Perhaps I am biased by the main character’s name- Audrey- or simply going through a throwback stage with my joy for a good mystery novel, but I enjoyed the tale. The protagonist is your classic "she isn't like the others" girl, but... better? She is brave and funny, and while I think the author up-played her intelligence just a smidge because, let's be real, she missed a few major hints, she was clever. I also enjoyed her interactions with secondary characters and her "I am just going to do this" attitude.
Her mysterious and unique counterpart, Thomas, was also fun to read about. Is he about to place on my list of top ten book boyfriends? Ehhh, probably not. Audrey held her cool, but seriously the boy should have been hit a few more times than he was. I am a sucker for a man who falls first and falls hard though, so that was nice to see here.
While I believe there was a bit of a feminist agenda going on that could be said to have been sorely missed, I think it still was representative of the time and was easier to look past than others may have found.
All in all- if you are a recent fan of the new movie series Enola Holmes, this is right up your alley.
